Calling NC Students: Two HSRC Scholarships Now Open
The UNC Highway Safety Research Center is now accepting applications from students at any of the University of North Carolina system campuses for two scholarships: the $5,000 HSRC Diversity Scholarship for undergraduate students and the $1,000 Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship for graduate students.
The HSRC Diversity Scholarship is an annual $5,000 scholarship designed to support the education of North Carolina undergraduate students who are interested in exploring transportation-related areas of study. The goal of the HSRC Diversity Scholarship is to encourage Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in transportation safety. Candidates will be evaluated on essay responses, as well as community involvement, leadership, academic performance, and career goals.
The Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship is an annual $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student with an interest in transportation who is working toward a master’s degree. The purpose of the scholarship is to foster the education and professional development of graduate students with an interest in transportation related areas, including, but not limited to, engineering, driver behavior, city and regional planning, public health, and environmental issues. Candidates for the scholarship are evaluated on a 500-1,000 word essay, as well as academic performance, career goals, extracurricular and professional activities, and work experience.
The deadline to submit applications for both scholarships is June 15, 2021. Learn more and apply at www.hsrc.unc.edu/scholarship.
