The 2022 Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship

Thank you for your interest in the Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship. To apply, please use the form below to submit your personal information and application documents. You will be asked to submit:

  • An unofficial transcript from each university/college attended.
  • An essay between 500-1,000 words addressing the following issue:
    • In 2020, 105,382 people were injured in 247,285 reportable crashes (down nearly 40,000 crashes from 2019) and 1,658 people lost their lives on NC roads (up more than 11% from 2019). This is the largest number of fatalities since 2007. Each year, people of color and low-income earners are disproportionately represented in these crashes.

Explain how your particular field of study could be used to address this problem and prevent motor-vehicle related deaths and injuries, with a particular focus on the impact of at-risk communities. This may include efforts to raise safety awareness, change unsafe behaviors, affect policy, improve vehicle safety or promote built environments that enhance roadway safety in North Carolina and beyond.

  • A copy of resume, including education, work history, honors and awards, etc.
  • Optional: A letter of reference from a department chair, advisor, instructor, etc. This item is not required, but may be included if you feel it will strengthen your application.
