Introduction

  • ADAS systems in SAE Level 2 autonomous vehicles are widely employed on multi-lane divided highways
  • This setting entails highest speed and greatest risk use of these systems
  • ADAS systems operating on high-speed roads must employ some type of Driver Monitoring System (DMS) to verify the driver’s attentiveness
  • Currently minimal regulation and reliability data for systems in commercially available vehicles
  • This study assessed variability in performance of three Tesla Model 3s’ DMSs during highway driving
