Background

Roadway congestion causes delay for public transportation buses and school buses, increasing operational costs, reducing efficiency, and forcing students, commuters, and other passengers to spend unneeded time traveling to their destinations. This project used three different datasets to calculate time of delay for all transit and school buses in Durham, North Carolina. The results of this research can be used by transit agencies, school districts, municipalities, and regional planners to adjust routes spatially and temporally in the short term and to refine long term transportation plans.
