Research & Innovation Summit – 2020
The North Carolina Department of Transportation invites you to participate in the second annual NCDOT Research & Innovation Summit. The purpose of this event, hosted by HSRC, is to learn from and collaborate with peers in the public, private, and academic sectors and to discuss innovative transportation technologies and research.
The virtual event will be held on October 13 – 14, 2020; it is a free event. Details regarding programming and the meeting platform will be updated on this site. We look forward to seeing you – online – at the Summit!
Call for Abstracts: Please use this form to submit a presentation idea for the Summit. Deadline extended: Abstracts are now due August 15, 2020.
NCDOT is looking for presentations that cover the following topic areas:
- Environmental & hydraulics
- Planning & policy
- Integrated mobility/multi-modal
- Unmanned aerial systems
- Pavement & materials/operations & maintenance
- Structures, construction & geotech
- Traffic & safety
- Roadway design
In addition, NCDOT encourages students to submit ideas for 6-minute lightning presentations using the abstract submission form.

Tuesday, October 13:
1 – 1:45 pm: Welcome and recorded plenary address
1:45 – 2 pm: Break, tech demos/simulations
2 – 3:00 pm: Breakouts 1 (three sessions)
3:00 – 3:15 pm: Break, tech demos/simulations
3:15 – 4:15 pm: Breakouts 2 (three sessions)
Wednesday, October 14:
1 – 1:30 pm: Recap of first day, tech demos/simulations
1:30 – 1:45 pm: Break, tech demos/simulations
1:45 – 2:45 pm: Breakouts 3 (three sessions)
2:45 – 3:00 pm: Break, tech demos/simulations
3:00 – 4:15 pm: Closing plenary “unsession”
