Introduction

Recent hurricanes caused mass evacuations. Many issues occurred during these hurricane evacuations, which have been brought to the public attention and attracted researchers to study how to manage an effective hurricane evacuation. Proper traffic control, sufficient emergency responders, and enough evacuation supplies are crucial for an effective hurricane evacuation. Therefore, it is important to estimate evacuation traffic volumes and patterns under different scenarios. To meet this need, we developed a hurricane evacuation simulation model using an open-source agent-based transport simulation (MATSim) framework.
