Founding director awarded NC’s highest civilian honor, Order of the Long Leaf Pine

HSRC 50th Anniversary

David Harkey presents the Order of the Long Leaf Pine to Dr. B.J. Campbell's family, who accepted the award on Campbell's behalf.

HSRC’s founding director, Dr. B.J. Campbell, was awarded the state’s Order of the Long Leaf Pine during HSRC’s 50th anniversary celebration, joining a prestigious group of North Carolinians who have had this award bestowed upon them by the governor.

This award is given for exemplary service to the state of North Carolina and the community that is above and beyond the call of duty. It is granted to citizens who stand out in their communities and who have devoted their lives to serving others, and whose efforts have made a significant impact on and strengthened North Carolina.

Campbell was presented with the award by HSRC’s current director, Dr. David Harkey. “Dr. Campbell’s dedication to the field of transportation safety, research contributions and desire to create and build a highway safety research profession is known and admired by many,” said Harkey. “Those early efforts have left a lasting impact on our field, making transportation safer not only for North Carolinians, but for communities worldwide.”

Congratulations, Dr. Campbell!
