Craig Raborn
Program Manager
Craig joined the Highway Safety Research Center in January 2004, after having been the American Planning Association's Congressional Fellow. He has a background in transportation and land use planning, policy analysis, and quantitative methods.
Craig is a Program Manager for the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) and the National Center for Safe Routes to School (NCSRTS), providing regular assistance to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on pedestrian and bicycle-related policy and program issues. He also provides direct technical assistance to pedestrian and bicycle programs at the state and local levels.
He is involved in planning evaluation procedures for the Safe Routes to School programs, projects, and activities, and helped draft the NHTSA handbook for evaluating safety programs. He is leading the development of the National Safe Routes to School's Program Tracking Database, which will provide the primary sources of information for FHWA's SRTS Report to Congress, presented upon the maturity of the program's funding allocations.
Additionally, Mr. Raborn is involved in research to improve the overall quality, usability, rigor, and analysis of nonmotorized transportation data. Craig is serving as project manager and primary author for the NCHRP 17-18(3) "Guide to Reducing Collisions Involving Bicyclists," a project to help implement the AASHTO Strategic Highway Safety Plan, and includes substantial content on technical characteristics of successful safety countermeasures, data collection, and selecting and implementing public awareness campaigns.
