Katy Jones

Manager, Public Information and Education Programs

Katy is responsible for the development and supervision of the Center’s public information programs as well as the promotion of HSRC’s research findings in pedestrian and bicycle safety, teen drivers, alcohol impairment studies, traffic operations and roadway design, child passenger safety and distracted drivers among others.

In her efforts to promote the Center, Jones serves as a spokesperson and the primary media liaison for HSRC by fielding media requests, arranging interviews and press briefings, as well proactively disseminating information on key research findings to the media, as well as policymakers, health and safety practitioners, researchers and the general public. She manages the production of all communications materials for HSRC, including the annual report, Directions e-newsletter and features for campus publications. Jones also serves as the editor of the HSRC web site.

Prior to joining HSRC, Jones served as a senior account executive at an integrated marketing firm in Durham, NC. She handled account management services including strategic planning and program implementation, media relations, special events marketing, community relations, internal communications, and crisis communications.

Katy earned a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with an emphasis in advertising and an outside concentration in psychology. She currently lives in Mebane with her husband Scott and son Tyler.
